This project we created textures using paint and a range of mark making tool. Students loved creating the different marks for their backgrounds. When dried we then worked into our backgrounds adding patterns. We then added the tail and head to our fish and put these together to create our hanging fish sculptures.
This lesson we all created something to add to our 'Spring' board. Pupils looked at Kandinsky to produce some wax resist circles. They then worked as tables to produce giant flowers and insects that remind us of spring.
This lesson we learned to use a base coat to seal the clay before adding our colour and detail. We used tempura paints and pupils were given white and the primary colours to encourage them to mix colours and tones to add to their slab. This worked well and there were some really well painted slabs.
This week we explored the characteristics of clay. We used the score, slip, stick and smooth techniques to join our shapes. Next week we will be transferring this knowledge onto our clay slab. Our theme for this project will be sea life.
Making a clay slab
This lesson we made our clay slab. This included us rolling our clay, cutting our slab and smoothing the edges.
We then created our sea life inspired imagery to add to our slabs using the score, slip, stick and smooth technique. I was really impressed with the pupils hard work this lesson and am looking forward to seeing the painted outcomes.
