We are starting our unit on shading and tone. The first part of this unit is all about light to dark using charcoal.
This project is an abstract drawing of shapes filled with gradients of grey.
In order to create tone using charcoal, we first have to learn to shade dark (black), then to a medium grey, then light grey, and finally leave some light (white) areas. It's all about using a range of values.
1. Draw an abstract line design.
2. Fill each section with tone from light to dark.
3. Shade the entire page.
4. Spray with fixative (or strong hairspray).
