'What can art do for you?' I really like this question and following it I decided to show my students Andy Warhol and Pop Art. I started the lesson asking what they would pay for a can of soup? This led me to showing Andy Warhol's famous soup paintings and asking how much they think they are worth? After explaining his coloured Campbells soup cans print was sold for $71 000 000 I had their full attention!
For our abstracted Pop Artworks we took influence from popular logos. We overlapped, layered and change the scale to abstract each logo, students used ipads, phones and laptops to research their own logo designs to personalize their artwork. These designs will then be completed using mixed medias. I hope this has opened a few students eyes to how we can use everything around us to create art.
Assessment for Learning
Pupils should be taught to develop their creativity and ideas, and increase proficiency in their execution. They should develop a critical understanding of artists, architects and designers, expressing reasoned judgements that can inform their own work.
